For a growing manufacturer, the difference between chaos and control often comes down to one connected system and Odoo Manufacturing is built to turn scattered production into a workflow you can actually see.

The Manufacturing Pains SMEs Know Well

Small and mid-sized manufacturers rarely struggle because their people lack skill. They struggle because information is scattered across whiteboards, spreadsheets, and memory. The recurring pains are familiar:

  • Visibility. No one can answer "where is that order right now?" without walking the floor.
  • Planning. Material shortages surface only when a work order stalls.
  • Traceability. When a quality issue appears, tracing which components and batches were involved is slow and manual.

Odoo Manufacturing (MRP) tackles each of these by connecting what you make to what you buy, hold, and account for.

How Odoo Manufacturing Helps

Bills of Materials

Everything starts with the Bill of Materials (BOM) the structured recipe for each product. A well-built BOM drives component consumption, costing, and replenishment automatically, so the numbers stay consistent from quote to shop floor to ledger.

Work Orders & Work Centers

Odoo breaks a manufacturing order into work orders routed through work centers. Operators see what to do, in what sequence, and can record progress in real time. That single change often eliminates the paper travelers and status guesswork that slow SMEs down.

MRP & Replenishment

Material Requirements Planning looks at demand, current stock, and lead times to tell you what to buy or produce and when. Instead of discovering a shortage mid-run, replenishment is proposed before it becomes a problem.

Master Production Schedule (added in v18)

Odoo 18 (October 2024) added the Master Production Schedule (MPS) to Manufacturing, giving planners a forward view to balance forecast demand against production and procurement. For a manufacturer moving from reactive to planned production, MPS is a meaningful step up.

Quality Checks

Quality checks can be embedded directly into production and inventory steps, so inspection becomes part of the flow rather than an afterthought and every result is recorded against the order.

WIP Tracking

Odoo 18 also introduced WIP journal entries in Manufacturing, tightening the link between what is physically in production and how it appears in your accounts. Work-in-progress stops being a black box.

The v19 Gantt View for Manufacturing Orders

Odoo 19 (September 2025) added a Gantt view for manufacturing orders, giving planners a visual timeline to sequence and adjust production at a glance. Alongside Odoo 19's broader additions such as AI-assisted features and Natural Language Search across the suite it makes planning more intuitive for lean teams.

Connecting the Whole Operation

Manufacturing does not stand alone, and that is where Odoo's full-suite nature pays off:

  • Inventory. Component consumption and finished-goods receipts flow straight into stock, with barcode support to speed and de-risk floor transactions.
  • Accounting. Production costs and WIP feed the ledger, so margins reflect what actually happened on the floor.
  • Real-time dashboards. Because everything shares one database, dashboards show live order status, capacity, and stock without manual reporting.

Migration and Rollout Tips

  • Get BOMs right first. Clean, accurate BOMs are the foundation; migrate and validate them before going live.
  • Start with a test database. Import products, BOMs, and stock into a test environment and reconcile before cutover.
  • Roll out in phases. Bring inventory and BOMs live, then work orders, then MRP and scheduling so the team adapts in manageable steps.
  • Train on the floor. Operators adopt fastest when training happens at the work center, not in a meeting room.

ERPNAS's Manufacturing Experience

Manufacturing is one of ERPNAS's core industries, alongside trading and services. With around ten years of experience and 60+ delivered Odoo projects, and as an Odoo Silver Partner with on-site presence in the Gulf and Syria, we know how to move a manufacturer from spreadsheets and whiteboards to a connected MRP workflow carefully, in phases, with your production team involved throughout. As a sister company of Majorbird, we can also bring extra engineering depth when a shop floor needs something specific.
